Raising the Bar: Lighteum Medical Unveils Updated Quality Policy and Quality Commitment

Lighteum Medical is proud to announce the official rollout of our refreshed Quality Policy and Quality Commitment across all four manufacturing sites.

This update represents a deliberate step forward in how we support our customers and the patients who ultimately rely on the medical devices we help enable.

Why We Updated Our Quality Policy

As Quality Director Miguel Quivira explains:

“We could have remained comfortable meeting the minimum requirements of ISO 9001. Instead, we chose to raise the standard by strengthening our Quality Management System. For our customers, simple satisfaction is not enough. Our commitment is to support positive patient outcomes through consistently reliable products and disciplined quality practices.”

COO Scott Rose adds:

“We didn’t make the change to align with ISO 13485. We bluntly did it to align with our customers’ expectations and their quality management systems.”

While we remain fully compliant with our current ISO 9001 certifications, this update reflects our intentional decision to go beyond baseline requirements and better align with the expectations of medical device manufacturers.

Our New Quality Policy

Lighteum Medical is committed to providing high-quality products that consistently meet customer, regulatory, and internal requirements.

We support our customers through:

  • Technical expertise in specialty materials and processing
  • Disciplined and measurable process control
  • A culture that prioritizes quality at every level of the organization

We achieve this commitment by:

  • Engaging and empowering our employees
  • Managing risk
  • Maintaining effective and compliant processes
  • Continually improving our Quality Management System

The Lighteum Quality Commitment: Every Employee Plays a Role

Quality at Lighteum is not a department—it is a daily mindset embraced by every team member.

Our new Quality Commitment captures this philosophy in three clear principles:

01. Make It Right

Follow all processes carefully and apply your expertise to ensure every product meets requirements.

02. Follow the Process

Use disciplined, measurable steps, manage risks, and prevent errors in every task you perform.

03. Continuously Improve

Look for ways to enhance processes, support your team, and contribute to the ongoing improvement of our Quality Management System.

Miguel emphasizes the deeper meaning behind these principles:

“Our Quality Commitment is more than words displayed on a wall. It is the standard by which every employee operates every day: Make It Right. Follow the Process. Continuously Improve. When every individual takes ownership of quality, compliance becomes the baseline, and excellence becomes the expectation.”

What This Means in Practice

This updated approach is already driving meaningful operational changes across our sites.

Miguel Quivira highlights two key shifts:

“In the past, process validation was performed only when requested by the customer. Today, every new product undergoes process validation, whether it is required or not. That is the difference between being a supplier that fulfills requirements and a trusted partner that proactively manages risk.”

He continues:

“Every change within our organization is now evaluated through a formal risk assessment before it reaches our customers for review. We are not relying on assumptions or hoping for the best—we are identifying, evaluating, and mitigating risks before implementation to ensure confidence in every change we make.”

COO Scott Rose adds:

“You’ll see this in our documentation, in our validations, and in the depth of our root-cause investigations. We’re operating at the same level of rigor our customers do—and that’s going to be felt in every component we ship.”

The Outcome: Quality That Matters

Ultimately, these changes are reflected in the products we deliver.

Miguel Quivira summarizes the bigger picture:

“Ultimately, everything we do is reflected in the quality of the products that leave our facility. Our goal is to deliver components that are more consistent, more reliable, and manufactured with the same level of discipline and rigor our customers apply to the finished medical devices they produce. Because while we manufacture components, we understand they become part of devices that improve—and in many cases, save—patients’ lives.”

Scott Rose reinforces the benefit to customers:

“When your supplier’s quality system mirrors your own, you stop translating requirements and start building better devices faster. That’s the peace of mind we want every customer to feel—knowing they have a true partner in delivering life-changing innovations.”

Aligning With Our Mission

This update reinforces Lighteum Medical’s customer-first mission and our vision to advance healthcare through precision-engineered components.

By strengthening our Quality Management System, we are positioning ourselves as a more capable and trusted partner for the medtech companies we serve.

We are raising the bar—not because regulations require it today, but because our customers and the patients they serve deserve it.
